How to start an autobiography when you feel you have “nothing to tell”
Unblock autobiography writing when you feel ordinary: small chapters, concrete scenes, and permission to be incomplete.
The most common block isn’t style — it’s the belief “my life interests nobody.” A useful autobiography serves you first: seeing the thread. Other people’s interest comes later, if you choose to share.
Start with the concrete
- A place you know by heart.
- A year when something shifted (even gently).
- A person who changed how you see.
- A job or project you left.
Write a scene, not a thesis
Three sentences about one specific evening beat three pages of generalities. The scene opens the door; the chapter grows around it.
On LifArcs, one first chapter + one moment is enough to break the blank page. You can densify later.
